One of my guppies is HUGE! with babies, I can't imagine she could get much bigger..
How do i know when she is ready to give birth? I worry about seperating her to early, it might cause her undue stress.
thanks for any help with this..

Congrats!!! :icon_woot:
I had problems telling too, but if you have sufficiant floating plants and check for babies a couple times a day, most should survive. Also, with what you have in your tank, I doubt many, if any, will be eaten. Once you find them, you can cup and separate them. That is if you decide to raise the fry.
Good Luck! :D
Wooo hooo Ally! I think your female is pretty close to dropping, they will be a "square box" look to their body close to baby time. They get cross with the other fish in the tank I found also (and who is to blame them so big and males chasing them still! lol). I found if you have lots of floating plants (fake or real), the fry escape into there. If you have the plastic pot scrubbers, you can pull it apart and use that for floating plants BUT make sure they have nothing added to them (no cleaners, etc...). I've used those too.
Good luck and count all the babies and tell us how many you got.![]()
something ive noticed is the back of there belly (tail end) gets really really dark as the babies grow and ive seen eyes some times when there stuffed full and about to burst dense plants work amazing for hiding places too fry survive on there own (like in the wild) but you get a much higher survival rate when you separate them..
Found a big spoon to stir with...
thanks all for your info.. Im still waiting somewhat patiently for the new babies to arrive. I'll let you know when and how many just as soon as she decides to let them go..
HI all! Just thought I'd update you on my guppie. She is still pregnant, and I thought she couldn't get any bigger. SURPRISE!! She is pushy with her tank mates, especially at feeding time. I hope it won't be much longer.
Just wait until it looks lik she's about to burst. When she does have the babies she will look much skinnier so you should be able to tell. Doesd she have a gravid spot yet? (a dark spot just in front of the tail/after the bigger part of the stomach)
Good-luck!
