Thread: Ph controller

  1. Question Ph controller

ok well received my ph controller today, calibrated it.. and well,, not sure if it is working right......i followed the little instructions it came with, i get more instructions with a kinder surprise and still has me stumped... my target ph is 6.5... .my kh is 2 i am new to this kinda thing..... i plug the thing in it tells me my ph is 6.39 and the indicator light is on and so is the solenoid pumping more co2 into the tank... lowering the ph// here is the instructions that came with the controller....
    • Connect the PH electrode in the PH input terminal socket and slide the [PH/SET] switch to PH position.
    • Immerse the electrode in a PH6.86 buffer solution and wait for a few seconds and adjust the CAL knob until the screen displays the reading 6.86.
    • Clean the electrode with fresh water. Immerse the electrode in PH4.01 buffer solution and wait for a few seconds and adjust the SLOPE knob until the reading 4.01 appears in the screen.
    • Once done with the calibration and the CAL and SLOPE readings are set, clean the electrode with fresh water. Calibration must be done every time a new PH electrode will be used. Do the steps 1 to 7 to calibrate the readings.
    • Put the PH electrode into the solution that you want to measure.
    • PH SETTING :
      • Slide the [PH/SET] switch to SET position and adjust the SET knob until it reaches your required reading.
      • Slide the [PH/SET] function switch to PH position. If the pH reading goes above the set value while setting the calibration, slide the [HI/LO] switch to HI-A position. And if pH reading goes below the set value while setting the calibration, slide the [HI/LO] switch to LO-A position.
so if i calibrated with both the solutions,, i then take the prob put it in my tank, and hit the switch over to ph, now i wait for the final reading on tank ph, and then i hit the switch to the lo setting, because my target ph is higher than the reading on the controller my solenoid kicks on,,,,, i think i am doing this wrong.... i am so lost,, anyone got a map.. or info to help me..i am stuck on the ph setting. its says if the ph reading goes above the set values while setting the calibration.. did i not just calibrate with those 2 bottles of stuff,, or do i have to calibrate it with the tank water.....:argue:

Who's PH monitor did you buy??? Pinpoint???

    Re: Ph controller

you may have the controller for salt water, which works in reverse to the fresh water one, ie turns on at more acidic conditions (I think)

sounds like your calibration is right, and the calibration seems to be values for the freshwater (acidic) range (hih pH probes are calibrated with very high pH solutions, not 4), I don't get the differing scale things, maybe they need to be calibrated at the right scale setting, but that is new to me (as is all this stuff which is why my profilux is still in the box!)

    Re: Ph controller

Pinpoints have two outlets...you need to use the right one.

  5. Re: Ph controller

well i know its not pin point, its off ebay... from hong kong...i fool around with it more,, but it seems it is comming on in reverse of which i want it to come on...i emailed the guy for more specific instructions... do any of our sponsors carry controllers... i might go down tomorrow and get one, put this one back in the box and put it on a shelf.......

  6. Re: Ph controller

ok so it looks like i got the thing working correctly.. well i think i do/////the guy sent me new instructions.. that was totally diff from the directions that came with it..
i have the my ideal ph set for 6.50
when the controller reads 6.53 it opens the solenoid and when in reads 6.47 it closes.........i keep watching and monitoring it,, so with the kh at 2 and ph 6.5 , i should have around 19 ppm of co2 dissolved in the water....

the ph probe,, can it be fully submersed or just the bottom few inches where the glass bulb is located.... it looks like it is fully sealed....

    Re: Ph controller

they can be fully submersed, and just a workd of warning, try to keep the bulb free of debris, and algae/scum buildup. I find they stop working after a time. I also have been told they need replacement every year, they run about $40.00 if I am not mistaken and are available by special order at Safari. Don't quote me on the price, but it wasn't horrible.

I haven't figured out how to keep the bulb clean, but I understand it is very fragile, so be careful.

Do you have a KH/pH/CO2 chart?, can you post that please?, or maybe email it to me?
