Well it really depends. Does the existing tank already have live rock in it? If so whats the ratio of lbs. to gallons? And how much new rock do you plan on adding? Are you going to be adding cured or uncured rock?
If you dont have any rock now.. it could cause a new cycle to begin, even if the rock is cured there will be some dieoff. If the rock is uncured its gonna totally mess up your tank and prolly kill off any corals or fish you have. It would be like starting from scratch.
If you already have live rock adding small amounts of new cured rock shouldnt cause a problem.. be sure to monitor your ammonia levels.
Solid advise Darren. You would be better off curing it outside your tank and then adding it in slowly but as Borderjumper says.. watch you levels like a hawk.

i have about 15lbs of liverock in a 30 gal tank. i was hoping to add about 10 more lbs??? what do you think?
if your asking if you can just plop it in to your display.. no. cure it first and then place it. Rule # 1 in reefing is go Slooooooooowwwwwwwwww.

If your purchasing it from the LFS you may wish to quarantine it for a little while anyway... so as to make sure you dont have any unwanterd hitch hikers.
